Description

This session will feature attorney Mario A. Torrico of ArentFox in conversation with business leaders from SFA member companies about the potential implications of proposed tariffs for the specialty food industry. Join this timely session to get a better sense of possible changes that could impact your business.

Topics will include:

  • Categories of tariffs and rates proposed by President-elect Trump on the campaign trail and in the months since the election (i.e. universal, China, Mexico, and reciprocal);
  • Legal mechanisms for imposing tariffs, including Congressional/agency “checks” and associated timelines;
  • Discussion of what companies can be doing now, including outreach, risk assessments, and tariff mitigation strategies; 
  • Discussion of any potential exclusion process based on 2016-2020 experience and the cabinet picks we expect to be leading the various trade agencies.
